A few weeks ago, I was presented with the opportunity to attend the Republican presidential debate in Las Vegas as a guest of CNN. To be honest when I first saw the invitation, I thought someone must be playing a joke on me — you want to send this uber liberal NYC girl to hang out with a bunch of Republicans in Las Vegas? Then I realized that this was an amazing opportunity to see the American political process up close and behind the scenes.

Kevin Smith premiered his latest movie “Red State” at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday, January 24th. But it wasn’t the movie that caused the controversy this time. After the screening, he had announced that he would auction off the distribution rights for the film to the highest bidder. The bidding opened, Mr. Smith offered $20, and they proclaimed the film was sold.
